West Indian fast bowler, Romario Shepherd, has become an overnight superstar in the Caribbean islands. At the IPL mega auction 2022, SRH placed the highest bid for Shepherd to get him on board for this edition of IPL. Romario entered the auction with a base price of 75 Lakhs, but he would have never expected as many as five teams to bid for him. After long bidding round, Romario Shepherd was sold to SRH for 7.75 crores.

However, Romario’s T20 numbers do not justify his final auction price. In the 44 T20 matches he has played, he has leaked 8.87 runs every over. But he does have a decent average and strike rate of 21 and 14, respectively. Apart from bowling, he is a handy batsman as well. In 22 T20 innings, he has scored at 26 with a strike rate over 160. His all-around ability definitely triggered multiple teams to go after him.

As soon as his name was announced, Lucknow was the first team to bid for him. After fighting neck to neck with Mumbai Indians, the SuperGiants backed off because of their low purse. Chennai Super Kings then joined the race for Romario and placed the highest bid of 5 crores before SRH knocked them down. At 3.8 crores, Mumbai decided not to bid more. That was when SRH entered the ring. RR had a fierce battle with SRH after CSK dropped out. Eventually, SRH bought Romario Shepherd for 7.75 crores. SRH’s decision has left a lot of eyebrows raised.
