2022 Austrian GP: Takeaways From The Race

The 2022 Austrian GP was a very predictable race, with it being clear that Ferrari had an upper hand in terms of their car’s pace after the Sprint, but the race sure had some drama all along.

The Race

Ferrari and RedBull

At the front, Carlos Sainz just didn’t have pace to match Leclerc all race. Leclerc even managed his tyres well but we didn’t see Carlos in the final stretch due to his DNF after his car’s engine failed in an erratic fashion.

Red Bull looked like they had horrible tyre management compared to Ferrari. Ferrari managed to pit so much later and then still easily close the gap up on fresh tyres. Max looked toothless against Leclerc for the lead, and the rumour is that the new upgrades Red Bull brought may have been responsible. If that’s the case they need to address that.

Haas had an extremely fast car this weekend. The drivers did a solid job to bring it home and duel with the other cars in great fashion. Magnussen had a serious engine issue all race, which left the good door points wide open including for a Mick great to duel pick up with Lewis in the early stages.

Esteban Ocon drove superbly. He made the moves when he had to, carving though the pack after his first pitstop and stayed out of trouble, picking his fights closely. Alonso also made a superb comeback and both the Alpines finished in the points.

George Russell hasn’t exactly been flawless in the past few races. Another incidentwith Perez, which left Lewis alone in his charge to a stellar podium. Lewis ia proving that the experiences that he has in F1 prevails, and the Mercedes’ engine has been very reliable in 2022, and that’s one of the reasons why Mercedes has been able to score so many points, the other reason being the consistency of the drivers, albeit Lewis had struggled a bit at the start of the season.

Daniel Ricciardo had a slightly better run today, but still finished behind Lando Norris. McLaren did the best they could, they had the sixth best car at best. today.

with Sainz’s car having engine problems amd having to retire from the race, Ferrari did everything that they could, and Charles was flying in the race until he started facing some issues with his throttle paddle that made the turn-3 pretty difficult for him to take. The Alpha Tauri drivers have been making a bit too much mistakes during the races now. Yuki had his incident with Alonso that made Alonso get on the grass and make an overtake on Yuki.
