The Paris Olympics Medals have been unveiled, heightening anticipation for the forthcoming Olympic Games.
On Thursday 8 February, the prestigious event revealed medals, each intricately crafted with a special piece of metal sourced from the iconic Eiffel Tower, whether gold, silver, or bronze.
The decision behind the Eiffel Tower feature in Paris Olympics Medals stems from a desire to be unique. Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, elaborates on this motivation.
the most precious metal in the Eiffel Tower, the jewel in the French crown.
“There was a huge amount done to try to bring together these precious metals – gold, silver and bronze – with the most precious metal in the Eiffel Tower, the jewel in the French crown. So what’s specific about the 2024 medals is that meshing together, that fusion, that alloy…”
“What’s impactful for this year will be having a part of the original Eiffel Tower metal, the iron, in these various medals, and so this is what we wanted to do, to infuse all these 2024 athletes with that metal.”
The medals have been designed by Chaumet. They are a French Luxury Jewellery and Watch Brand based in Paris. Established in the late 18th century, Chaumet ties the links between heritage, sports, and jewelry-making. The Paris Olympics Medals are inspired by three themes: hexagon, radiance, and setting.
