Carlos Alcaraz, the current world number one, will square off against Felix Auger-Aliassime, the third seed, in the 2022 Swiss Indoors semifinals on Saturday.
In the quarterfinals, Alcaraz faced fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta. Alcaraz struck first, breaking serve in the fourth game to take the opening set by three games to one. The senior Spaniard then avoided a few set points to put the score 3-5. However, the adolescent was able to win the set by serving it out in the following game. In the second set, Alcaraz had a 2-0 lead, but Carreno Busta was able to rally and tie the match. At the very end of the set, the defending US Open champion obtained another serve break. After then, Alcaraz served out the match for a 6-3, 6-4 victory and advancement to his seventh semifinal of the year.
Following a gruelling three-set victory over Marc-Andrea Huesler, Auger-Aliassime defeated Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1, 6-0 in the second round. After that, in the quarterfinals, he played Alexander Bublik. Despite having to work for it, Auger-Aliassime broke serve to start the game. He gained another break to increase his advantage to 5-2 in the seventh game, and he quickly served out the set to claim victory. With a 4-2 advantage, Auger-Aliassime carried the momentum into the second set. The Canadian teenager broke his opponent’s serve once more to defeat him 6-2, 6-3 when Bublik served to stay in the game at 5-3.
