In the third set, Nishioka took an early lead with a break to go 3-0 up, but she was unable to maintain it. At 4-3, Kovacevic was able to regain the serve. At this time, the Japanese were ahead 5-3 after securing yet another break. He ended the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 by winning the following game.
