Memphis Grizzlies point guard and superstar Ja Morant has issued an apology and deleted his social media accounts while also announcing that he will be absent from the team for “at least” two upcoming games.
In a statement released on Saturday through his representation, Morant expressed guilt for a video that he posted on Instagram, showing him holding a firearm. The statement said, “I take full responsibility for my actions last night. I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis, and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down. I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.” Also Read: Ben Simmons of the Nets suffers back soreness during knee injury rehab, return date uncertain
NBA’s investigation of the Ja Morant situation
The NBA and the league are currently investigating the viral video that would later result in a decision that may not comply with Morant. Although, he is a culprit everywhere in the news he’s still an excellent player. Morant, who is a two-time All-Star, is averaging around 27.1 points, 8.2 assists, and 6.0 rebounds per game this NBA season.
The announcement of Morant’s time away from the team came shortly after the reports of his alleged involvement in incidents concerning assaulting a teenager and threatening behavior with a mall security guard. He was already accused of the two incidents and the Instagram live video only adds more to the situation.
Regarding these allegations, Morant’s agent, Jim Tanner, stated, “Any and every allegation involving a firearm has been fully investigated and could not be corroborated. This includes the NBA investigation last month, in which they found no evidence.” Also Read: Dillon Brooks says, ” I don’t like Draymond at all,” also criticizing Golden State Warriors
Morant and his multiple violent incidents since the past year
Additionally, the Indiana Pacers‘ traveling party has also claimed that an acquaintance of Ja Morant pointed a laser at them after a late January game, but no evidence has been found as such to suggest or verify that a firearm was involved.
However, Jim Tanner again offered his response to the situation and said, “Any and every allegation involving a firearm has been fully investigated and could not be corroborated. This includes the NBA investigation last month, in which they found no evidence.” Also Read: Boston Celtics loss against Brooklyn Nets triggers “boos” from the fans
Conclusion
Morant will miss at least two games against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers, and likely the following home game against the Golden State Warriors. Certainly, his miss presence on the court will greatly affect the Grizzles as being so close to the playoffs it is very important for the team to not lose any such players.
