Lewis Hamilton set to be offered new Mercedes contract

It seems just like yesterday that a young Brit in the red and silver McLaren set the Formula 1 grid ablaze in his rookie season. Sixteen years later, that Lewis Hamilton has forever etched his name in Formula 1 and motor-racing history. Now, he’s set to be offered a grand new contract.

An Impressive Resume

Lewis Hamilton is a foundational pillar of not only Mercedes, but of Formula 1. The British driver has an impressive resume to say the least. He is a seven-time World Champion, tied with the racing great Michael Schumacher for the most number of World Championships in Formula 1 history. Hamilton has won six out of the aforementioned seven World Championships with the Silver Arrows. He came achingly close to a historic eight championship, but Max Verstappen edged him out in a controversial last lap of the last race of the 2021 season.

A Salary Bump Is On The Cards For Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton’s current Mercedes deal sees him earn €45 million. This deal will expire at the end of the 2024 season. Sportune has now reported that he is now set to earn €70 million salary per season. The racing great is being awarded a significant pay rise for his service to the Mercedes camp for the better part of a decade. A two-year deal will see him earn €140 million in two years.

There will be a noticeable absent in the new contract offered. The new contract doesn’t include the €25 million bonus for winning the World Championship. In fact, Hamilton failed to secure a single win in the 2022 season. George Russell, in his Mercedes debut season outscored Hamilton by 29 points. He secured 262 points in comparison to Hamilton’s 233 points. Also Read: Zak Brown And Others Look To Solve The Red Flag Dilemma In F1 Qualifying Sessions

Just A Matter Of When, Not ‘If’

Wolff had previously stated that he will sit down with Hamilton over the course of the winter break to negotiate terms of a new contract.

Rest assured, a renewed contract is practically confirmed. Hamilton is not only pivotal to Mercedes as a driver but as an ambassador for the brand. Hamilton has gone on record stating that he has no intention to retire from Formula 1.

The new contract will see Hamilton drive into his 40s. He is set to join Fernando Alonso as a driver well into his 40s yet still showing no signs of slowing down. Also Read: Toto Wolff Opens Up About Mick Schumacher And His F1 Future
