Kolkata Knight Riders has named West Indies Batter Johnson Charles as a replacement for Litton Das for the remaining IPL 2023 season. Due to a family emergency, Litton Das had to return to Bangladesh last week. In this season Litton Das played only one match and scored 4 runs.
Charles is a wicketkeeper-batter like Litton Das and has represented West Indies in 41 T20Is, scoring 971 runs. He was also part of West Indies’ 2012 and 2016 ICC World T20 winning squads. Additionally, he has played 224 T20s and has over 5600 runs in his career with a strike rate of 130.72 with 3 centuries and 32 fifties.
Earlier this year, Johnson Charles has the record of scoring the fastest T20I century off 39 balls for his nation against South Africa. He scored 118 off 46 with 10 fours and 11 big sixes. This was a maiden T20I hundred for Charles. Earlier, this record was registered to Chris Gayle. He scored a ton off 47 balls against England in Mumbai in 2016.
His power-hitting came to the fore when he scored 52 off 36 balls against India in the World T20 semi-final in 2016. West Indies won this match by 7 wickets and entered into the final against England. As per the IPL statement, he has joined KKR for Rs. 50 Lakhs.
Kolkata Knight Riders are currently at the 8th place in the standings with 3 wins in just 9 games. KKR are getting ready to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match No. 47 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.
