In the upcoming summer transfer window, there are widespread reports that FC Barcelona could at least make 6 or even 7 signings this summer. With left-back being at the forefront of it as it is something Barcelona simply have to do because right now they do not have a good cover for Jordi Alba. He is being overworked and being overplayed throughout the season and for that reason, a left-back is a necessity in this summer for Barcelona. Here are some of the options that they are looking at.
Alex Grimaldo
This is a name that all of Barcelona is very familiar with as Alex Grimaldo is a former Barcelona B captain and is now playing at Benfica. Now Grimaldo is 26 years old and is going into the prime years of his career with his contract expiring at Benfica in 2024. Based on that, reports suggest that he’s not interested in signing a renewal so Barcelona could force Benfica to sell Grimaldo this summer at a bargain instead of losing him for free next summer. He has scored 5 goals and provided 8 assists which is simply astonishing and Xavi would be very impressed by his numbers.
Jose Gaya
There’s also this man who has a very similar sort of situation and again with him he’s 26 years old and will turn 27 next month. So these 2 players are gradually moving into the prime years of their footballing careers and if they want a big move in Europe, the time is indeed now. Gaya is also out of contract in 2024 but there have been reports that he may be open to extending at Valencia. He has scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists this season and has also led Valencia to the Copa Del Rey final.

Borna Sosa
There’s also been rumours in the Spanish media of a Stuggart left-back Borna Sosa. He is liked among many of the Barcelona supporters and he is certainly a younger option than the other 2 as he is 24 years old currently. There are reports that he has a 25 million release clause in his deal at the Bundesliga club and he is somebody that Barcelona have received outstanding scouting reports. He has provided 7 assists and scored 2 goals this season with a club who are fighting for relegation and are in 16th place at the moment. So indeed if they do get relegated, he could be interested to join Barcelona.
Javi Galan
He of course is the Celta Vigo left-back and he also can play further forward during the game potentially as a wing-back. He too is coming into the prime years of his career as he is currently 27 years old and he is by bar the cheapest option for Barcelona this summer. Xavi is apparently a big admirer of him, he’s appreciated the work that he’s been doing in La Liga at Celta and he could be a sort of outside option if that was the road that Barcelona would be willing to take. He has played every minute in this season’s La Liga playing 2850 minutes in 32 games and this shows his outrageous physical fitness even at this age.
