Its been said many times before but the gravity of this title race does require it again. This season has been one of the most competitive in recent Bundesliga history. From Union Berlin’s iconic rise to the top of the table prior to the World Cup to Dortmund’s turn around under Edin Terzic which took them to the top of the league. Bayern’s dominance at the top for the past decade has been so close to shattering so many times throughout this season but the inconsistency that plagues Dortmund continues to spoil all such plans. Bayern’s title challenge has also been hampered by their managerial changes along with problems off the pitch, especially with CEO Oliver Kahn.
As the season draws to a close, let’s take a look at both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund and where each club stands in the pursuit of the Bundesliga title.
Bayern Munich
The German behemoths reclaimed their top spot in the league with a comfortable 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin over the weekend in a game which they dominated. With Sadio Mane’s return, the Bavarians now have backup for Choupo-Moting up front who has failed to live up to expectations. With Tuchel switching to a 4-2-3-1 as of now, the Kimmich-Goretzka pivot that has caused some issues in recent times will be under even more scrutiny. Nonetheless, Bayern continue to seize their chances and hold onto a mere 1 point lead as we enter the final 4 games of the season. With fixtures like Schalke and Bremen before their must-win game against Leipzig.

Borussia Dortmund
Even with one hand on the title, Dortmund have somehow managed to put themselves in a spot of bother again with the draw against Bochum. The men in black and yellow now have 60 points in 30 games, just one less than Bayern. But with the season at this stage, the league may just be decided by that one crucial point itself. Dortmund remain completely dependent on its youth talents, Donyell Malen, Karim Adeyemi and Jude Bellingham for any attacking output. And even though Adeyemi and Bellingham are one of the most refreshing duos to watch in all of football, Dortmund needs to find more attacking channels to make their attack more free flowing with Sebastian Haller being more involved. With Gladbach, Mainz and Wolfsburg as 3 of their last 4 games, Dortmund have to maintain immense consistency while hoping Bayern stagger at some point to have something to show for such a fruitful season.
