Lionel Messi is named the Laureus Sportsman of the Year for 2024.

Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina who won the World Cup, has earned the 2024 International Athlete of the Year honor from Laureus. At a ceremony on Monday in Paris, the news was made. After the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner achieved his most significant goal in Qatar, the Argentine superstar was chosen above the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Max Verstappen, and Rafael Nadal. Messi was honored after inspiring Argentina to a famous victory at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil the previous year.

Messi received the Laureus Sports of the Year for a second time this year. At the Laureus Fund World Sports Awards, Lionel Messi and Argentina, the World Cup champions, earned a double by being voted Sportsman and Team of the Year. He is the only sportsperson to take home both squad and individual honors in the same calendar year. Christian Eriksen won the Laureus World Return of the Year prize. Christian Eriksen of Denmark passed out on the pitch in 2021 while playing Finland in a Euro 2020 match due to a heart attack.

Messi remarked after receiving the honor, “I’m really glad to be going this year, especially because it’s in the town where I reside. I wish that I were able to appreciate it. It was an exceptionally significant occasion in Qatar. I needed the trophy, and there it was. It was unique for my teammates as well as the entire nation. My life has revolved around football.”People with similar ideals come together via sport. Also Read:Barcelona beats 10-man Osasuna with the help of Jordi Alba’s goal.

Messi, 35, is presently the subject of rumors that Saudi Arabia is interested in signing him. But for the time being, he is still at Paris Saint-Germain, where the famous Laureus ceremony was held. On Monday morning, the Ligue 1 club revealed on Monday morning through its official Twitter feed the fact that the 35-year-old Argentina national was reinstated after being fined and suspended for traveling to the Middle East without authorization.
