“I would love every tennis court to be 10 metres large and 10 metres wide”- Daniil Medvedev

Medvedev lamented over the playing on small courts but he understands that it's not possible to make every tennis court larger.

World No.3 Daniil Medvedev wants all the tennis tournaments to have larger tennis courts. He called smaller courts a disadvantage to him and other players as well.

During his fourth-round match against Aslan Karatsev at the recently-concluded 2024 Madrid Open, Medvedev lamented over the playing on small courts but he understands that it’s not possible to make every tennis court larger.

“Why do I have this disadvantage when I am No 2 [seed]? I don’t understand. It’s a little bit strange, right?” Medvedev said at that time.

He then opened up about his frustration with the restrictive court dimensions in Madrid during his pre-tournament press conference at the 2024 Italian Open.

“From one point of view, I understand probably all the tournaments in the world cannot make all the match courts as big as I want or some other players want. At the same time it’s a disadvantage,” Medvedev said.

“Yeah, I would love every tennis court to be 10 meters large and 10 meters wide, but I also understand it’s not possible. Every time I’m not going to have my space on the return, I’m going to be disappointed because I cannot play my best tennis,” he added.

Daniil Medvedev will start his Italian Open campaign on Friday

Medvedev faced fourth round exit at the Madrid Open where Aslan Karatsev knocked him out 7(7)-6, 6-4. After that defeat, he will be heading to the Italian Open to face the winner of the match between Ugo Humbert and Emil Ruusuvuori to start his campaign in Rome.

The Russian has already lifted four trophies this year, in Rotterdam, Qatar Open, Dubai Open, and Miami Open.
