“It seems like a glamorous life, but it isn’t,” Chris Evert supports Amanda Anisimova in her decision to take a long break to focus on her mental well-being

Amanda was last seen at the 2024 Madrid Open where she was knocked out by Arantxa Rus in the Round of 128 5-7, 2-6.

Amanda Anisimova hogged the limelight after she defeated defending champion Simona Halep in the 2019 French Open semi-finals at the age of 17. But she recently revealed her mental health struggles since the summer of 2022.

On May 5, Anisimova took to social media to announce her decision to take a mental health break because it has become “unbearable” for her at the tennis tournaments.

“At this point, my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time. I’ve worked as hard as I could to push through it. I will miss being out there, and I appreciate all the continuous support,” she said.

Chris Evert points out that tennis life isn’t glamorous

After her announcement, tennis journalist Christopher Clarey took to Twitter to show his support by writing: “This is troubling and sad: one of tennis’s great talents who has been through a great deal in her young life.”

Chris Evert retweeted Clarey’s post and by sharing her own opinion and advice with Anisimova. Evert said that it’s difficult for teenagers to take up everything the tennis world has to provide. She also pointed out that praise and criticism from social media fans also affect mental well-being.

“It seems like a glamorous life, but it isn’t. For a teenager, it is not a normal life. Every day, you’re either a winner or a loser. You’re put on a pedestal or you’re shamed on social media. The highs and lows provide no balance. There is a price. Take your time Amanda…..,” Evert tweeted.
