Novak Djokovic will absolutely be ready for the French Open, says former tennis star

The major problem surrounding his form is his recurring elbow issue.

Tennis great John McEnroe’s brother Patrick McEnroe is suspicious that Novak Djokovic will be fully ready for the 2024 French Open which is scheduled to start on May 28.

Djokovic played his first match on European soil at the Monte-Carlo Masters but lost to Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals. Then instead of the ATP 500 Barcelona Open, the Serb chose the 250 events in Banja Luka where also he was ousted by his fellow Serb Dusan Lajovic, which saw Djokovic lose a match against his compatriot for the first time in 11 years. The major problem surrounding his form is his recurring elbow issues. He even sported a band on his elbow during Banja Luka matches. Due to this injury, he chose not to play at the Madrid Masters. Now the present form of the World No.1 on clay swing, plus his elbow trouble has raised many eyebrows whether the 35-year-old can even get fully fit for the French Open. Patrick McEnroe opines reason why Novak Djokovic played in Banja Luka

But Patrick McEnroe thinks Djokovic will be absolutely ready for the Roland Garros. Patrick also opined that the reason Djokovic chose to play in Banja Luka is that he wants to get ready for the French Open.

“So Djoker will try to get those matches in. He’s obviously concerned about one thing and one thing only, that’s the French, and making sure he’s ready for that,” he said.

“My suspicion is he’ll absolutely be ready for it,” he added.

Djokovic will be a major miss at the Madrid Open where he has lifted the trophy three times and has a 30-9 win-loss record. This year, he is 17-3 including titles in Adelaide and at the Australian Open, where he clinched his record-tying 22nd Grand Slam.
