Osasuna sealed European berth on the final matchday of the La Liga Santander 2022-23 season after beating Girona (2-1) at El Sadar.
With champions Barcelona, as well as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad having wrapped up Champions League football, the continental spaces were mostly settled before Sunday.
Osasuna’s main rival for a place in the Europa Conference League was Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic Club. However, Athletic Club’s hopes vanished when Real Madrid came from behind to end their last match of the season in a 1-1 draw, a solitary point for Los Blancos was enough for them to secure the second place ahead of their local rivals Atletico Madrid.
Osasuna had a huge home support as the Pamplonian fans came out in large numbers to support their club, but, Jagoba Arrasate’s men suffered a huge blow when David García was called off due to an early injury, ended up suffering in the first half, with two very clear chances for Girona.
