Argentina’s Journey till now
Argentina’s progress at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar this year has been impressive. La Albiceleste lost their opening match to Saudi Arabia 2-1, which was disheartening. They swiftly bounced back, though, by defeating Mexico and Poland on the group stage.
Once in the round of 16, Lionel Messi and his team defeated Australia 2-1. The quarterfinal match against the Netherlands was their toughest test; after 90 minutes, the score was 2-2, with Lionel Messi scoring a penalty in the second half.
After 30 minutes of extra time, the two teams remained deadlocked, and the game went to penalties. After an exciting penalty shootout, Argentina prevailed. Lionel Messi converted the first penalty for his team, setting the tone for the remainder of the shootout. After captain Virgil van Dijk and Steven Berghuis missed on penalties, the Netherlands fell 4-3.
On December 13, La Albiceleste will play Croatia in the FIFA World Cup semifinals.
