Will there be two IPL in a year? Ravi Shastri and Aakash Chopra revealed the possibility

Ravi Shastri emphasizes that the day is not far where IPL will have 2 seasons a year.

Now, some former cricketers have emphasized on the tournament being played longer. In addition, there have been suggestions to limit T20Is to World Cup. This will increase the window for the IPL and other T20 Leagues. Recently, IPL 2022 has ended with the debut team Gujarat Titans lifting the Trophy. There have been speculations of IPL being played in 2 seasons. Therefore, experts Aakash Chopra and Ravi Shastri have talked about the possibility of two IPL seasons in a year in the near future.

Leading commentator and cricket expert Aakash Chopra recently speculated IPL played in 2 seasons. Moreover, he believes that it isn’t very far for the marquee tournament to be played in two instalments.

“I actually foresee there might be two editions of the IPL in every calendar year. And that’s not too far away.”

Former India head-coach Ravi Shastri has returned to commentating duties after his tenure has ended. In an interview, he talked about strong possibilities of IPL expanding its fixtures and number of matches. This year, 2 new teams competed and a total of 70 games were played. However, Shastri emphasizes that looking at the popularity of the sport, it is not going to overload the audience.

It could be tomorrow – 140 games, split 70-70. In two seasons. You never know. That’s the way it’s going to go. That’s the way it’s developed as a beast of a property. And you cannot hide away from that. You might think that’s overdose, but nothing is overdose in India. I have been sitting outside the bubble, I have been watching people, how they have seen, how they have reviewed these last few months, especially [after coming] out of Covid. And they are loving every bit of it, and they are almost having withdrawal symptoms.
