Never before has the entire commentary box reacted to a shot with “oh, my word”. Come Tuesday evening, that is exactly what Liam Livingstone made them say while jumping out of their seats. With 27 to get from 30 balls, Livingstone gobsmacked everyone as he a 117 metre six, the longest six of IPL 2022.
Electing to bat first, the Gujarat Titans managed to put up 143 aboard. Although the Punjab Kings got off to a good start, things shifted towards GT’s way after the wicket of Rajapaksa.
In walked Liam Livingstone and smacked the longest six of IPL 2022, after which things took a nose-dive for GT. Even the bowler, Mohammed Shami, was smiling in shock after the enormous six.

His reaction was:

Legendary leg spinner and PBKS head coach Anil Kumble exclaimed at the shot as well.
“I have seen Chris Gayle do that often, but this was something different”

The Englishman then proceeded to smack Shami for two more sixes in a row as he hit 29 runs of the over. Credit to his blitz the Punjab Kings finished the match in 16 over, handing GT their second loss.
During the post match interview, Livingstone said:
“Swinging hard enough. I didn’t think I was going to bat at one point, nice to go out and hit a few out the middle. I thought Shikhar played beautifully to set it up. It was a big win for us and we needed it. We have played some bad cricket in the last couple of games and it is nice to turn it around. I went up to Mayank and said I fancy going in before you and he said you go in if Bhanu gets out and I go in if Shikhar gets out. We know our roles and also if Mayank is there we have more stability. It is all about learning, it is hard to go in and play the way we wanted to as a new team. We played a bit smarter today and you have to play like that on such pitches,”
