Sri Lanka Makes World Record, Successfully Chases Most Runs In Last 3 Overs Of T20 Against Australia

Dasun Shanaka, along with Chamika Karunaratne, made massive 56 runs in the final 3 overs, thus making a world record.

The 3-match T20 Series of Sri Lanka against Australia is finally over. Although, the first two matches in the series were won by the Australian team, thus sealing their series win. However, the Sri Lankan team have shown great skills and confidence in the 3rd T20I. As a matter of fact, Sri Lanka makes world record as they successfully chased most runs in last 3 overs of a T20I match. With the marvelous record, SL bagged the victory of the 3rd T20I against Australia by 4 wickets. 

As the coin fell onto the Australian side, they decided to bat first. They put up a total of 177 runs on the board. Maheesh Theekshana emerged to be the most successful bowler from SL as he picked up 2 wickets by conceding just 25 runs. SL got a pretty low start while chasing and were just at 108 runs in the 16th over with 6 wickets already down.

Dasun Shanaka, then stepped onto the field and lived up to his all-rounder expectations. He smashed off Josh Hazelwood’s deliveries into 2 sixes and 2 fours in the 18th over. Him and his partner on the crease, Chamika Karunaratne, again managed to get more 18 runs in the 19th over too. However, the target wasn’t close enough. They still needed 19 more runs to win against Australia. Kane Richardson was handed the ball to deliver the final over. He started off with 2 wide deliveries but only conceded two singles on the next pair of deliveries. 

Shanaka dealt with the next three balls only in boundaries and sixes. He hit a 4, 4 and a 6. After which SL needed just a single run to grab the victory. Richardson bowled a wide and eventually handed over the win to Sri Lanka. By scoring a whopping 56 runs in the last 3 overs, SL has created a world record which will definitely be tough to break. Meanwhile, Shanaka scored a brilliant knock of 54 runs off 25 deliveries.
