“Since team management has made it clear that I won’t get picked..” Wriddhiman Saha to ‘focus on domestic cricket’

Wriddhiman Saha is one of the few players to feature in all 15 seasons of the IPL.

Title-winning Gujarat Titans’ opener Wriddhiman Saha‘s career looked uncertain before the IPL. After the controversies, he was involved in in the recent past it is quite clear that he might not get a chance to play for the national side again. Moreover, Saha revealed earlier this year that Management and coach Rahul Dravid have made it clear that ‘he is no longer in the scheme of things’. Wriddhiman Saha was brought in GT’s XI after Matthew Wade failed to perform. His performances for the team have been crucial as Saha is known for his quick-fire hitting abilities in the powerplay. Saha who was once India’s first-choice keeper in Tests was later dropped off as Rishabh Pant took his place.

In the South Africa series, several all-format players are rested so there was a slight hope that Saha could replace Pant, after a successful IPL. However, his run with the Indian national side seems to be over. However, the 37-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has kept avenues open for himself in the future. He talks about focusing on the IPL and domestic cricket and spending more time with his family.

Wriddhiman Saha to ‘focus on domestic cricket’

“Since it has been officially made clear by the Indian team management that I won’t get picked, my main focus will be on domestic cricket – if and when I play – and then of course IPL.”

On being asked if Saha plans of playing County Cricket at some point, he denies it. He adds that he would like to spend more time with his family. Therefore, limiting himself to domestic tournaments and the cash-rich IPL.

“No, no. As it is, it is difficult to devote time to the family, so I just want to spend some quality time with them now.”
