Shubman Gill Scores Maiden T20 Century, Hours After Getting His First T20I Call Up

Shubman Gill has once again enunciated his batting prowess in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament. The right-hander got to his maiden T20 century playing for Punjab in the tournament quarter-final. The well-paced century was a dominating show as Gill filled his knock with many eye-catching boundaries. The knock comes just a day after Gill received his maiden T20I call-up for the Indian team.

Team Punjab witnessed a quick fall of wickets with opener Abhishek Sharma walking off cheaply. However, Shubman Gill along with Anmolpreet Singh stuck to the cause batting first against Karnataka. Gill scored his half-century within 30 deliveries. However, then showed a serious case of acceleration reaching his century within the next 19 deliveries. Gill, ultimately, scored 126 off 55 in a knock that included 11 fours and 9 sixes.

Shubman Gill Earns a T20I Spot For The New Zealand Tour

Gill’s single-handed domination over Karnataka at the Eden Gardens let Punjab set a gigantic score of 226 for the chase. Shubman Gill joined the domestic side midway after wrapping up the India vs South Africa ODI series. The young batter has been on a high lately after winning his maiden IPL championship with the Gujrat Titans. The right-handed batter has since earned consistent call-ups in India’s test and ODI teams for overseas and home series.

And in the latest development, Shubman Gill has got his maiden T20I call-up for India’s tour of New Zealand. Gill has performed exceptionally well in the ODI format for the international side. Consequently, the selection committee deemed it fit to include Gill in the squad that lacks the assistance of senior players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli. Witnessing the sheer show of skills by Shubman Gill across all formats, this seems like just the beginning for the star player.
