One of the biggest pillars in Indian women’s cricket, captain Mithali Raj reached another milestone in her prolific career. She surpassed Aussie veteran Belinda Clark to lead a team for the maximum number of matches in the ICC Women’s World Cup. Team India faced West Indies in Seddon Park, Hamilton in their third clash in the World Cup. It was Mithali Raj’s 24th match as a skipper in a World Cup. Out of 24 matches, India has emerged victorious on 15 occasions under her leadership with a win percentage of 65.21%. The swashbuckling cricketer is the only second skipper to lead a side in more than 2 World Cups.
The Women In Blue hammered the Windies by a huge margin of 155 runs to stage an epic comeback after the disappointing loss against the Kiwis. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur‘s twin centuries propelled India to post a huge total of 317-8. After a solid fightback from the openers, the Caribbean team completely lost track in the middle overs. Team India now leads the points table after ending the Windies’ unbeaten run in the tournament.

Captain Mithali Raj lauded the team’s turnaround in Hamilton. She, however, emphasized that the squad will need to remain consistent in its approach in future fixtures.
“Couldn’t have asked for a better effort from the girls. The way they stepped up in a crunch game like this. It had a lot to do with the nerves, Everybody knew about the importance of this game. We needed to step up. Windies came into this game with two wins and we came in after a loss. You need to be a little flexible. The way Smriti and Kaur played sensibly. It is good to have youngsters around. The young ones ease out the nerves by cracking a few jokes. What worked for us was our approach and attitude, The next game might be on a different ground and different conditions. But our approach can be consistent.”
