Joe Root, one of the fab 4 of Test cricket hasn’t been quite active in T20 cricket lately. Free of the test captaincy charge of England now, Root is working towards a T20 revival. Not our words, but of Root himself. Root has been out of action for the English team in T20 for more than 3 years now. Moreover, Root has gone unsold once in the IPL auction when he entered the pool in 2018. Root didn’t look back at the league any further after that. However, as it appears, Root not only did look back but also earned a spot in a team. Not just any team, but the runners-up of IPL 2022.
Joe Root IPL 2023 Mini-Auction Price
Joe Root entered the IPL 2023 mini-auction pool with a base price of 1 crore. However, the former English test captain didn’t find any buyers in the first round of the auctions. Fortunes did turn for the better for Root in the second round finally. Rajasthan Royals put their bid on Root and bagged him without any intervention by any other team. Joe Root went to the Royals at his mentioned base price, INR 1 crore. Now, Root has been united with the current English white-ball captain and the star of Rajasthan Royals, Jos Buttler in the squad for IPL 2023.
Joe Root has registered his name in the elite list of 10,000 run scorers in test cricket at the mere age of 32. However, the former test captain of England hasn’t been able to earn similar repute in the shortest format of the game. Root has yet played over 30 T20 matches for England and has a high score of 90*. As things transitioned within the English team, Root subsequently missed out on the scheme of things in T20 post-2019. Moreover, Joe Root is yet to feature in IPL as he went unsold in the 2018 auctions. However, now that he’s found a home in Rajasthan, hopefully, 2023 will be the inception of Root in IPL.
