England had the best start to their cricket summer as they marked a huge win against New Zealand in the first Test. Former Test skipper Joe Root smashed a century to reach 10000 Test runs in style, becoming the newest entrant to the elite list. In addition, in a gigantic coincidence, Joe Root became the joint youngest to reach 10000 Test runs. He leveled England Test great, Alastair Cook to score the 10000th Test run at the age of 31 years, 5months, and 5 days. Moreover, he is only the second England cricketer to enter the 10000 runs club. Cook had surpassed Sachin Tendulkar (31 years, 10 months, and 20 days) in 2016, to become the youngest player to score 10000 Test runs.
England veterans James Anderson gave a good start to the team picking early wickets. However, England batters failed in their first inning. Needing 61 runs on the 4th day with 5 wickets in hand, England had an easy win in the Lord’s Test. Joe Root stood strong scoring 115* off 170. While reaching the 10000 runs milestone, Root smashed his 26th Test ton. It took him 118 matches to score 10000 runs in Tests. In addition, it is also Joe Root’s first 4th inning hundred.

BCCI chairman Sourav Ganguly couldn’t keep calm and took to his Twitter handle after the remarkable inning. He tweeted “Joe Roooooooot ..what a player what a knock under pressure ..an all-time great ..”
