IPL Biggest Myths: 4 Myths of IPL which everyone believes to be true

People think that IPL is a fixed league while Mukesh Ambani buys all the umpires

Let’s look at 4 myths of IPL which everyone believed to be true. Indian Premier League has always been the most celebrated franchise T20 league in the world. However, the league has always been associated with one controversy or another. It has always been a tainted league. People believe in some stories and believe those stories as true, but in practice, they are not. We will look at such myths which people believed to be true about the IPL.

List of 4 myths of IPL which everyone believed to be true

4. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for match-fixing

Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals went through a torrid time during the 2015 season IPL. In July 2015, CSK and RR were banned from the IPL for two years for betting and Spot-fixing activities of their key officials Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra during the 2013 season.

People think that both teams were banned for match-fixing. But no one understands match-fixing and spot-fixing are completely different terms. Spot-fixing means a certain event of the match is fixed. E.g. bowling a no-ball. While match-fixing means the result of the entire match is fixed by players or officials.

3. Mumbai Indians won 5 trophies because of Umpires

Mumbai Indians is the most successful side of the IPL. They have 5 IPL trophies in their trophy cabinet. The critics of Mumbai Indians never show the sportsman’ spirit and claim that they won the league 5 times by forcing the umpires.

Well, in practice, nothing has happened like that. Yes, there were some errors by umpires, but that doesn’t mean a side or the umpire is cheating. It was simply an error in judgment as umpires are humans and not a machine.

So MI has won the trophies based on their consistent performances.

2. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Deccan Chargers are one and the same team

Though Sunrisers Hyderabad is and Deccan Chargers were Hyderabad-based franchisees, they have never been the same team. Deccan Chargers went bankrupt in 2013 and hence Sun TV Network won the bid with 85.05 Crore INR.

So Sunrisers Hyderabad and Deccan Chargers are not the same.

1. IPL is a fixed league

Well, it’s really puzzling to see people babbling with friends and family that IPL is a fixed league. How could an entire league be fixed? If the players were so efficient to ‘produce’ a result as per the instructions from owners, then every batter would have scored a century and every bowler would have got 5-fer in every domestic game.

But they are not ‘that’ efficient and that’s the beauty of this game. The conclusion is nothing can be fixed. Every result is a product of the hard work of the players on the field.
