The 15th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is still a few months away. The IPL 2022 season is all set to welcome two new teams in form of Ahmedabad and Lucknow. The new franchises are busy in building their coaching staff. In the latest turn of events, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra set to become Head Coach of Ahmedabad franchise. Also, England opener Vikram Solanki is also in line to become ‘Director of Cricket’ for Ahmedabad franchise. Former India Coach Gary Kirsten is also set to become ‘Mentor of franchise’.
“As far as I have heard, they have signed Ashish as their head coach and someone who would be in overall charge of the franchise. Solanki will be the ‘Director of Cricket’ and also expected to double up as batting coach and Kirsten will be in a mentorship role. The Ahmedabad franchise can’t announce it formally as it is a BCCI diktat and they can only make a formal announcement after they get the Letter Of Intent. The head honchos of the Ahmedabad franchise has already interviewed the trio and short-listed them for the season.”

Ashish Nehra Set To Become Head Coach Of Ahmedabad Franchise
Talking with Nehra’s stint with IPL franchises as Coach, he was associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for some time where Gary Kirsten was also associated. Nehra and Kirsten also worked together for the Indian team. Both had a fruitful time when Nehra was a player and Kirsten a coach. Nehra had been away from coaching from the past two years. He decided that he would be taking any coaching assignment only if it has the profile of Head Coach. Nehra believes that Head coach can make a difference both in terms of team composition and strategy. And now Ashish Nehra is set to become Head Coach of Ahmedabad.

Ashish Nehra was a very brilliant pacer India had ever had. He played for a long time for India in all formats. Also, in IPL he played for many franchises and performed brilliantly. Overall he played 88 IPL matches. He has taken 106 wickets in those matches with a brilliant economy of 7.84. Economy of under 8 in T20s is just brilliant.
The new season of IPL is expected to hit the floors by the first week of April 2022. But the recent spark in cases of Coronavirus, post a threat to the proceedings. The auction is likely to be held between February 11-12.
