List of the 5 emerging players ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022
United Arab Emirates’ Vriitya Aravind
UAE‘s 20-year-old Vriitya Aravind is a wicket-keeper batter, widely known for his sweet sound of the bat. Hence, Aravind’s ball timing and hitting the ball with the sweet part of the bat make him a class apart from the rest.
Moreover, Aravind recently was named the Player of the Tournament and was the leading run-scorer of the T20 World Cup Qualifier A. The dashing right-hander also is a phenomenal wicketkeeper. Throughout the tournament, Aravind looked in a good nick behind the stumps.
Karthik Palaniapam Meiyappan from United Arab Emirates
Another young Emirati, Karthik Palaniapam Meiyappan takes the second position on the list. The 21-year-old, according to the ICC “fits the archetype of the short-format leg-spinner” ahead of the marquee tournament.
With a smooth and swift run-up, Karthik’s high release point is a cherry on top. Known for his mix of dip and spin, the leg-spinner played a key role in UAE‘s Qualifier A campaign, earlier this year. Moreover, Karthik could play another big role in his national team’s qualification for the second round of the competition.
Scotland’s Brandon McMullen
The 22-year-old Scottish batter describes and proves himself as a “genuine” all-rounder. Previously he made it to the highlights for his impressive domestic action. First impressing in Regional series action and then in A team matches, Brandon McMullen provides a subtle balance to his team. With his versatility and dependability, McMullen could prove to be the biggest outbreak in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Bas de Leede from Netherlands
The 22-year-old batting all-rounder from the Netherlands claims the fourth position in the ICC’s Emerging Players list. Moreover, regarding his recent form in white ball cricket, the council even termed the young boy as “a generational talent for the Dutch.”
His stats in the shortest format of the game tell a story of their own. Debuting at the end of the most recently held T20 World Cup, de Leede has scored an aggregate of 228 runs in 13 innings, with a strike rate of 101.78. With his sensational form, de Leede could be the backbone of the Netherlands’ T20 World Cup campaign.
Namibia’s Divan la Cock
Namibia is to face the Lanka Lions in the inaugural match of the marquee tournament. The Namibian team looks to be in its golden era. Moreover, Namibia’s 19-year-old Divan la Cock makes it to the front page of the ICC’s official website. A batting all-rounder who opens the innings carries the potential to take his national team to new heights.
Divan’s ability to anchor the innings along with a decent strike rate makes him the missing piece in the sluggish Namibian top batting order. Hence, la Cock could be an emerging talent to root out for in the multi-nation tournament.
