Former Pakistan Skipper Rashid Latif has criticised former India skipper, MS Dhoni, over the latter’s wicket-keeping skills. Latif, who himself was a wicketkeeper, supported his arguments with statistics. He claimed that Dhoni dropped a “large” percentage of his catches—roughly 21%. Dhoni recorded 256 catches and 38 stumpings in Test cricket, 321 catches and 123 stumpings in ODIs, and 57 catches and 34 stumpings in T20Is, it is an important note. Rashid thinks that one should also take into account the number of opportunities a wicketkeeper has missed.
“Dhoni was a batsman-wicketkeeper… Dhoni is a big name. But if I go into stats, his (catch) dropping percentage is 21 per cent, which is huge, huge,”
LATIF SAID ON HIS YOUTUBE CHANNEL CAUGHT BEHIND.
“Everybody goes to catches but no one notices number of catches dropped, number of stumps missed, number of byes given and missed run-outs, then you get points,”
HE ADDED.

Dhoni isn’t the greatest wicket-keeper of all times says, Rashid Latif
One of the greatest wicket keepers of all time, MS Dhoni, announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2020. He continues to compete as a T20 cricket player for Chennai Super Kings, his IPL team.
Latif gave his preference for South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock when asked who he thought was the finest wicketkeeper, but he remarked that the southpaw lacked finishing skills.
“If you look at the best in the last 15 years, the best would be Quinton de Kock. He has kept wickets and batted well in all three formats. He has not been a good finisher but a superb wicketkeeper-batsman. Before him, there were the likes of Mark Boucher and Kumar Sangakkara,”
SAID LATIF.
Some of Dhoni’s mindboggling records
Talking Dhoni’s records, the former wicketkeeper batter has made a plethora of them. Dhoni is the only Indian wicket-keeper who has dismissed 829 wickets, which includes 634 catches and 195 stumpings. MS also holds the record for the most number of stumpings in International cricket -195. In ODI cricket, MS Dhoni holds the record for the highest number of dismissals by an Indian wicket-keeper in ODI- 444 (321 catches, 123 stumpings). Moreover, he is the only Indian wicket-keeper to go beyond the 200 and 300 catches mark in ODI. Dhoni has caught 321 wickets.
The Captain Cool is the First Asian wicket-keeper to make 20+ dismissals in an ODI series (21 dismissals in Commonwealth Bank Series, 2007/08). Kumar Sangakkara holds the second position by making 17 dismissals.
