CWG 2022 India Squad: Full India Squad announced for Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022

This will be the first time that Women’s T20 International will be featured in the prestigious multi-sport event.

The Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 is just 3 weeks away. Indian athletes in all disciplines are giving shape to their final gear-ups. India has already finalized their CWG Squads in Wrestling, Badminton, Hockey, Athletics, and Table Tennis along with the much-awaited Women’s Cricket team. So the BCCI announced the squad for the Indian women’s team which will take part in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, stretching from July 28-August 8. This will be the first time that Women’s T20 International will be featured in the prestigious multi-sport event. India is placed in Group A along with Australia, Barbados and Pakistan. Sri Lanka, England, New Zealand and South Africa are placed in Group B.

The top two teams from the respective pools will progress to the semi-finals. India is scheduled to play three games in the league stage of the tournament.

Harmanpreet to lead the side

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will face Australia on July 29, arch-rivals Pakistan on July 31 and will end the group stage against Barbados on August 3. The Indian team recently completed an ODI series whitewash against Sri Lanka and before that they also won a 3-match T20I series 2-1 against the same opponents.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 will be India’s 18th appearance in the showpiece event. The following is the list of the number of competitors participating in the games.

Indian Badminton CWG 2022

Indian badminton players were selected after a round of selection trials in New Delhi last month. Former Commonwealth Champions P.Kashyap, Saina Nehwal both miss out of the list.

Indian Boxing CWG 2022

The boxing trials were held by the Boxing Federation of India in Patiala earlier this year.

Men: Shiva Thapa (63.5kg), Mohammad Hussamuddin (57 kg), Amit Panghal (51kg), Rohit Tokas (67 kg), Sumit Kundu (75 kg), Ashish Chaudhary (80 kg), Sanjeet Kumar (92 kg), Sagar (+92 kg)

Indian Wrestling CWG 2022

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) conducted trials in Lucknow, Sonepat and Delhi to select the Indian squad for Commonwealth Games 2022. 6 Wrestlers each in both Men & Women Categories have made the CUT.

The Men’s and women’s teams have qualified for the Commonwealth Games 2022 by virtue of their FIH rankings.

Indian Swimming Squad CWG 2022

The following swimmers will represent India at the CWG 2022. Olympians Srihari Nataraj and Sajan Prakash are the experienced swimmers in the Indian contingent.

Indian Athletics Squad CWG 2022

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) selected a 37-member Indian track and field squad for the Commonwealth Games.

Eldhose Paul (all triple jump), Tajinderpal Singh Toor (shotput)*, Neeraj Chopra, DP Manu, Rohit Yadav (all javelin). The 12-member weightlifting contingent will be one to look out for at the Games. The contingent includes Tokyo Olympic Silver Medallist Mirabai Chanu (49kg).
