Rajasthan Royals end with 14 points in 14 games. Their Play-off hopes are hanging by a feather! Royals defeated Punjab Kings by 4 wickets to stay alive. The chances of them qualifying would be decided by the results on a double header on Sunday!
The Royals started the season by winning four of their first five games. It felt like Rajasthan Royals were the early favorites to win the IPL 2024. Their season fell apart when they lost four of the next five games! They only amassed 3 wins in their last 9 games and hence managed only 14 points.
Earlier, Royals needed to chase 188 runs in 18.3 runs to beat Royal Challengers on Net Run Rate. They did chase the score but took 19.4 overs for the chase. Devdutt Padikkal and Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed fifties while Hetmyer scored a 28-ball 46 to get them close. This meant that they stay just behind RCB’s NRR. Royals have a NRR of 0.148 and the Challengers have a NRR of 0.180.
For the Royals to qualify, they would need Sunrisers Hyderabad to beat Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 69. And later that day, they would want Royal Challengers Bangalore to lose by 10 runs or more for the Royals to qualify for play-offs. There are a slim chance of them qualifying but their fate is not in their hands now.
One of the main reason for them sliding down this season has been the form of Jos Buttler. The Englishman has only managed 392 runs in 14 innings at an average of 28. He has recorded five ducks this season.
