Wolves vs Everton Preview, Team News and Lineups

Initial Observations

Keeping Dan Bentley in goal or reintroducing Jose Sa to the starting lineup is up to Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui. Chiquinho and Sasa Kalajdzic are still sidelined due to long-term injuries. Despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaving the game against Manchester City at halftime due to a groin injury, Everton manager Sean Dyche wants to have him available. Conor Coady is unable to take on his parent club, and Vitalii Mykolenko is anticipated to miss the match with a thigh injury.

For Everton, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s physical condition is critical. He was forced to leave the game against Manchester City on Sunday at halftime due to a tight groin, and it’s obvious that Toffees manager Sean Dyche wants him available for this match. Everton defeated Brighton 5-1 in their most recent away game with Calvert-Lewin spearheading the charge, and they will pose a far greater danger if he plays at Molineux.

Wolves beat Everton three times in a row for league wins, matching their total from the initial 14 Premier League games. The last time Everton lost at Molineux in back-to-back league seasons was from 1977-78 to 1978-79. On Boxing Day, Wolves defeated the other team 2-1 in Julen Lopetegui’s debut league game as manager. Everton Team News

Since 1951, Everton has not been demoted from the top division. The longest ongoing run in the top flight belongs to the Toffees, who have been there since 1954–1955. In 18 road league matches in 2022–23, they had only two victories, both by a score of 5–1 over Brighton. They have scored 5 goals away from home this season, which is 29% of their overall total.

For the very first time since Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure in April to May of 2021, they are attempting to win two straight-away games. The Blues has only won their last away league game once in the previous seven seasons, falling to Manchester City and Arsenal respectively by scores of 5-0 and 5-1. Everton has only allowed two scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes of games this season.

Wolves Team News

The seven victories of Wolves are the most home league victories in 2024, trailing only the two of Manchester City and Manchester United. All nine of Wolves’ league victories this year at Molineux have come while maintaining a perfect record. Only Manchester United had more clean sheets overall at home in 2022–2024 than they have.

They have followed in the footsteps of West Brom (2004–05), Sunderland (2013–14), and Leicester City (2014–15) by finishing last in the Premier League standings on Christmas Day without being relegated. With just six goals each, Ruben Neves & Daniel Podence are their equal league leaders in scoring. This season, just one Wolves player has done so more than twice. Their 30 goals are the fewest in the top league thus far this year.

Wolves Possible starting lineup:

Bentley; Semedo, Dawson, Kilman, Bueno; Traore, Neves, Lemina, Nunes; Cunha, Costa

Everton’s possible starting lineup:

Pickford; Patterson, Tarkowski, Mina, Holgate; Iwobi, Garner, Doucoure, Gueye, McNeil; Gray
