Jannik Sinner, who lost the final against Daniil Medvedev in Miami Open admitted that he felt sick in the morning before the match, but there was no question of him pulling out of the tournament. He looked uncomfortable in the 87 F (30.5 C) heat and took a pill along with a powder in his water.
“We woke up this morning, not at my best, I felt a little bit sick…unfortunately today I couldn’t play at my best,” said the 21-year-old after the match to Medvedev in the final.
“No, it was not that bad. But, you know, with the heat, when you run a lot, it gets a little bit worse and worse. Obviously, the first half an hour we played in the sun also,” added the Italian.
Medvedev also agreed that it was probably the hottest day and the most humid during the day. “I was also struggling, tried not to show it,” said the Russian.
Daniil Medvedev eased past Jannik Sinner to win fourth title this year
In the match, Medvedev claimed his fourth ATP title of this season with a stunning victory over Jannik Sinner, who had upset defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-final. But the former World No. 1 Medvedev continued his red-hot form on the hard court to beat the Italian 7-5, 6-3.
The 27-year-old played his fifth final this season and has won 24 matches, losing just one of his last five finals in consecutive tournament weeks. The one loss came against Carlos Alacarz in the Indian Open final. Also Read: Chris Evert Becomes A Victim Of An April Fool’s Prank Featuring Carlos Alcaraz
It was Medvedev’s 19 ATP Tour title, however, it was also his first Masters 1000 since the Toronto event in 2021. The Russian did not have an impressive season in 2022 and after an early defeat at the Australian Open, he was pushed from the top 10 in three years. Seven weeks later, the World No.4 won his first Miami Open title in his career.
He has now won five of the six hard-court ATP Masters 1000s. But now he as well as Sinner will shift his focus to the clay court for the upcoming Monte-Carlo Masters in Monaco, starting April 8.
