Devils’ Dawson Mercer has an active goal streak of eight games, which is the second-longest goal streaks at age 21 or younger. Hockey Legend Wayne Gretzky holds the record with 9 games straight in the historic 1981-82 season.
Dawson Mercer started his streak on February 16th against St Louis Blues. He scored single goal against Penguins, Canadiens, Flyers, Avalanche, and Gold Knights. Against Kings and Jets, he had double goals. He has a total of 21 goals in the season, 10 of them in the past eight games.

Dawson stands a chance to equal Gretzky’s record when Devils play Coyotes away 7:00 pm ET. The chance of breaking a Gretzky record lies in Tuesday game against Toronto.
Excluding Dawson, Ron Flockhart, Mike Gartner, Mike Bossy, Paul Gardner, Stan Mikita have all had 8-game goal streak. However, Dawson is the only one who has done it in the 21st century.
Wayne Gretzky and his team Edmonton Oilers broke many records in the 1981-82 season. Oilers, barely playing in the NHL for two seasons then, notched up 111 points from 80 games. The team became the first NHL Team to score over 400 goals in a single season. The Great One scored an NHL record of 92 goals with 212 points, first-time a single player went up 200 points.
As the Play-Off inches closer, New Jersey Devils is second in Metropolitan Division. The Devils have squandered 86 points from 61 games. The division is topped by Hurricanes who have two points more, playing one game less.
