India is ready to host Sri Lanka as its first guest in 2024. The Sri Lanka tour of India is set to commence in the first week of January. Team India and Sri Lanka will engage in a three-match T20I series followed by an ODI series of as many matches. Subsequently, BCCI has announced the Indian squad for both formats. The squads, in turn, showcase major transitions in player selection. Safe to say, the announcement has dropped like a live bomb on social media. While the senior players are rested for the T20I series, the ODI squad has stirred an uproar on the internet.
India Vs Sri Lanka: BCCI Announces the Indian Squad
The management has announced Hardik Pandya as the captain of the squad for the T20I series. Surprisingly, Surya Kumar Yadav has been appointed as his deputy. Yadav has jumped ranks in the team within a matter of months. Though, his consistent blazing knocks in the format are backing his selection for the top spot. Moreover, reports indicate that this is the onset of transformation in the T20I squad ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. While Sharma is out due to his thumb injury, sources claim that management is fading out him along with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul from the scheme of things in the T20 format.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is back in the T20I squad along with Rahul Tripathi. Moreover, BCCI has extended the rope for fan-favorite Sanju Samson in the T20I format too. Furthermore, uncapped players, Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar have earned their maiden call-up in the national T20I team. Meanwhile, young guns like Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, and Washington Sundar have restored their spots on the national side in both formats.

Indian Squad for the ODI Series Against Sri Lanka
Coming on to the ODI squad, Rohit Sharma will be back as the captain. Moreover, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will also join the squad post their break in the T20I series. However, the shocking update is that KL Rahul won’t be back as the vice-captain of the team. The management has announced Hardik Pandya to be the vice-captain of Team India, replacing KL Rahul. Moreover, refined opener Shikhar Dhawan has been axed from the ODI squad.
In another shocking move, Rishabh Pant is absent from the squad in both series. While the sources claim that Pant is down with a knee niggle, social media opines that Pant has faced the axe too. Moreover, prodigious speedster, Umran Malik is back in the national side as he is named in the squad for both the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka.
