The first India vs New Zealand ODI match will unfold at the Eden Park stadium in Auckland. Opened in 1900, Eden Park is one of the oldest stadiums in the world. The venue in central Auckland primarily hosts Rugby along with crickets. And has been home to the Rugby World Cup finals in 2011 and 1987. Incidentally, Eden Park is the venue where New Zealand earned its first test victory back in 1955 against West Indies.

Eden Park has the capacity to host 50,000 spectators simultaneously. The seating capacity, however, cannot be expanded beyond that even with temporary seating arrangements.

The Eden stadium is known for its rectangular shape. And consequently, the straight boundaries at this venue are the shortest in the world. The square boundaries are comparatively bigger, with the straight boundaries finding it difficult to match the ICC-specified lengths. The straight boundary, here, measures 55 meters and the square boundaries are 65 meters from the pitch.

Pitch Details

Being a multi-purpose venue, Eden Park uses a drop-in pitch like most of the venues in New Zealand. The pitch at Eden Park usually favors the batters offering little to nothing to the pacers. However, the pitch slows down in the later part of the match. And, the spinners can take advantage of the pitch slowing down in the latter stage of the clash.
