Paris: As the world gears up for a proper post-COVID Summer Olympics 2024, India is aiming to increase its contingent strength.
India is the most populated country in the world, yet the amount of Indian Athletes in Olympics is scarce. It was in Tokyo 2020, Indian sent its largest contingent to-date. The Indian Contingent at Tokyo comprised of 124 athletes and bagged 7 medals – best haul in a Single Olympics.

India expects more participation in the upcoming Games and a bit more celebrated medal haul. After the success is Birmingham last year, India has high hopes for their athletes. Trap shooter Bhowneesh Mendiratta won India’s first quota place at the ISSF World Championships in order to qualify. Mendiratta in the process became the first Indian to qualify for Paris 2024.
Rudranksh Patil followed suit in Men’s 10m Air Rifle and Swapnil Kusale in Men’s 50m Air Rifle 3 Positions. So far, India has three entrants in the Shooting Category.
In the 10th Indian Open Race Walking Competition, Akshdeep Singh clinched gold by setting the National Record. The Olympic Qualification Standard for 20km Walk is 1:20:10, The Barnala Boy cleared the distance in 1:19:55.
In the Women’s event, Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Priyanka Goswami also clinched her Olympic spot by winning Gold. She finished the race in 1:28:50, half a minute ahead of the Olympic cut-off – 1:29:20. However, The second place Bhawana Jat missed the Olympic spot by 24 seconds.
The Summer Olympics 2024 is a hope for the Indian sports Industry. The big names of Indian sports are yet to start their qualification process, thus giving a good impression.
