World No.1 Novak Djokovic will take on Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the Semifinal of the 2022 Serbia Open on Sunday, April 24.
Novak Djokovic has seemed to completely shaken off all the rustiness in his game that was seen during the start of the season. Having missing the Australian Open and the Sunshine masters, the Serbian entered the clay season with very little match fitness. He exited the Monte Carlo Masters in the very first round after loosing to Davidovich Fokina. On the contrary, the two time Belgrade champion is playing peak tennis in the Serbia Open. After pulling off a comeback win against Laslo Djere, he followed a similar pattern in the next round against the in form Kecmanovic. He also dropped the first set to Russia’s Khachanov in the Semifinal on Saturday and still managed to convincingly win the Second and third sets. Will he follow the same pattern in the finals? We have to wait and see.
Andrey Rublev had a tremendous start to the year. The Russian already secured two titles, the being the Marseille Open and the Dubai Open. Rublev won four more matches in Indian Wells reaching the semifinals, but eventually falling short with a semifinal defeat to Taylor Fritz. But, unfortunately he had a couple of poor results in the last two tournaments. He seemed to have got back his golden touch and he reached yet another Final of an ATP tournament this year. He defeated Jiri Lehecka, Taro Daniel and Fabio Fognini to make it to the last two players in Belgrade. Having going down to Djokovic in straight sets last November, he will be seeking revenge.
