World No.1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia will take on Russia’s Aslan Karatsev in the second round of the 2022 Rome Open on Tuesday, May 10.
Novak Djokovic is going six months without a title. His last trophy came in November 2021 in the Paris masters after getting his revenge on Medvedev. Even after reaching the Finals and Semifinals in his last two tournaments, the wait for the Serb continues. After an early exit in the Monte Carlo Masters, the World No.1 is slow getting back to his old form. He looked very confident and stable last week in Madrid. After an exhausting three and a half hour battle against the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic was defeated in the semifinal. With the French Open nearing, the Serb will look to have a strong run in Rome to maintain confidence.
Aslan Karatsev had a tough first round match in Rome on Sunday. He played against Lloyd Harris and won the match after loosing the first set. The Russian ended his four match loosing streak after his first round win. He is now set to face against the World No.1 who is slowly finding back his lost elements and trying to build a strong start for the upcoming French Open. The Russian will hope to recreate what he did last year in Belgrade, but he is not the same player he was back then. Will he be able to road block the Serb? We have to wait and find out.
