Mexican tennis delegation led by Santiago Gonzalez, Alejandro Hernandez and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela have sent shockwaves. The Mexican team has decided to snub their Davis Cup encounter with Taiwan. Mexico was scheduled to take on Taiwan on February 4th and 5th for a Group I playoff tie. The tie was supposed to take place in Metepec, State of Mexico.
Reason Behind The Davis Cup Snub
The Mexican tennis players have cited differences with the Mexican Tennis Federation (FMT) as the reason behind their withdrawal. A statement expanding upon the reason behind the team’s decision was released on social media. It was additionally signed by players Ernesto Escobedo, Lucas Gomez, Hans Hach, Gerardo Lopez, and Manuel Sanchez. The statement from the Mexican team stated the following:
“After a difficult deliberation, we have not reached a positive conclusion, so we have decided not to participate in the upcoming series against the Chinese Taipei team. The lack of communication, lack of planning and lack of interest show that the situation has not been handled in the right way and that personal interests have taken precedence over sporting ones.”
“It is sad that the FMT does not have the minimum standards in dealing and planning with the best national representatives.”
The Mexican tennis aces had already informed the Mexican Tennis Federation of their reasons behind not playing the scheduled Davis Cup tie against Taiwan.
