Djokovic Exhausted, Andy Murray grabs a 4 am win

The 21-time Grand Slam winner has missed practise sessions as he works to heal in time to face Grigor Dimitrov in the third round. This could jeopardise his bid for a tenth Australian Open victory.

The 35-year-old Serbian lost a set in the second round, demonstrating the toll the injury has undoubtedly put on him. This is not the first time Djokovic has soldiered on through an injury. Having suffered a painful abdominal muscle tear in his 2021 title run. But the former champion admitted things are different now.

Losing Djokovic in the first week would not only open up the draw, but it would also deny fans the chance to witness the two most successful men’s players, who have won a combined 43 Grand Slam championships. Rafael Nadal previously had to withdraw early due to injury.

However, three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has confounded expectations by making it to the third round. After two lengthy five-set matches in Melbourne, the Briton has already spent more than 10.5 hours on the court; his victory over Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round was completed at 4:05 a.m. local time. Murray also blasted on the organisers for not letting him use toilets and also other mishandlings.
