Carter Verhaeghe scores in OT to register Panthers’ first Stanley Cup Final Win

The Florida Panthers came from behind to mak their first Stanley Cup Final win thanks to an Overtime goal by Carter Verhaeghe. The Panthers have also reduced the Golden Knights’ series lead by 2-1.

The Golden Knights started their quest for the third victory in the Stanley Cup Finals quite successfully. Mark Stone and Jonathan Marchessault scored in the first two periods to hand the Knights a lead. However, In the latter stages of the third period, Matthew Tkachuk equalized the score at 2-2 for the Panthers. He accomplished this feat by capitalizing on the rebound generated from Verhaeghe’s forceful one-timer taken from the right point. Minutes after killing off a Vegas Powerplay, Carter Verhaeghe received the puck from Sam Bennett and successfully converted a goal using a wrist shot from within the blue line. Despite obstructing players, the shot managed to elude Adin Hill’s defense and found its way into the net on the glove side.

Brandon Montour scored Panthers’ first goal. Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saved while Adin Hill saved 20. Sergei has come back to his above .900 SV%, something that will add hope to the Cats.

The win marks Panthers’first ever Stanley Cup Final Victory. Having swept off by Colorado Avalanche in 1996, the Cats have finally a margin of hope. Additionally, the win also means that the Cats have maintained their solid Overtime luck, winning 7 of the Overtime in this season’s Playoffs.

The Game 4 of the series will take place at FLA Live Arena on Saturday.
