Wolves Forward Taurean Prince arrested at Miami Airport due on a fugitive warrant: Reports

Prince was apprehended at the Miami Airport in accordance with a "fugitive warrant out of state extradite."

Taurean Prince, a forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves, was reportedly detained on Thursday at Miami International Airport. Minnesota Timberwolves forward Taurean Prince was detained on a fugitive warrant issued in Texas.

Taurean Price Apprehended

The arrest was made at the airport, according to David Ovalle of the Miami Herald, and the warrant was from Texas. The warrant is related to “dangerous drugs,” according to Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640.

Prince was apprehended in accordance with a “fugitive warrant out of state extradite,” according to KSTP in Minnesota. 

The Timberwolves said in a statement that they were “collecting more information” and that they were “aware of the alleged report regarding Taurean Prince.”

Why was he arrested?

The Miami-Dade County Corrections Department had him in custody as of Thursday night. Jail records did not include details about his bond or the specific charges he is expected to face in Texas.

According to a person with knowledge of the case, the accusation stems from drug traces discovered during a traffic stop in Tarrant County, Texas. Prior to Thursday, Prince was unaware of the warrant.

What’s next for Prince?

This summer, Prince and the Timberwolves came to a two-year, $16 million extension agreement. In his first six NBA seasons, he averaged 10.5 points per game while playing for Atlanta, Brooklyn, Cleveland, and now Minnesota. Prince, 28, was incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Thursday night after recently agreeing to a two-year, $16 million contract extension with the Timberwolves. 

In the NBA since 2016, Prince has represented the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Timberwolves. Last season, he played in 69 games for Minnesota.

The 6-foot-6 small forward, who is from San Antonio, Texas, played college basketball at Baylor University before being chosen by the Utah Jazz with the number 12 overall pick. Later, he was traded to Atlanta, where he spent three years playing. Later, he played for Cleveland and Brooklyn briefly.

Prince was traded to Minnesota last year, where he played 69 games and scored an average of 7.3 points per contest.
