Manchester City has not put in a bid for Marc Cucurella; Brighton’s “priority” transfer target

Summer transfer window closing soon before Manchester City bid for Brighton's Marc Cucurella

Marc Cucurella, the left-back for Brighton & Hove Albion, is the target of a bid from Manchester City, who are awaiting the sale of one more player. Cucurella is reportedly anticipating the proposal because he is eager to join City.

Manchester City must sell a player before approaching Brighton with an offer. Few names are already in discussions with other teams. The two primary players are Raheem Sterling and Nathan Ake.

Oleksandr Zinchenko may leave Manchester City during the present transfer window. The Ukrainian may be looking to go in order to find more playing time somewhere. As he has not made the team during the previous campaign.

Brighton Owner Tony Bloom’s comment on Marc Cucurella Transfer bid

Even though no bid has been submitted and the Premier League season is only four weeks away, the Spaniard is a main priority for City.

“Marc is a tremendous player, a tremendous person. The players love him, Graham (Potter) and the coaches, love him, I love him, the fans love him.”

“He was unbelievably good last season, his first season in the Premier League. We’re hoping for more to come and we haven’t had a bid for him.”

Fabrizio Romano on Cucurella’s priority

Fabrizio Romano reports that Pep Guardiola’s team will shortly make their first offer for the current Brighton left-back. Numerous clubs have expressed interest in Cucurella. It is a result of his outstanding performance in the previous season.

Marc Cucurella performance in Brighton

Since his £15 million transfer from Getafe to the Amex Stadium in August of last year. Cucurella has left quite an impression. Following his signing, he started every Premier League game, and at season’s conclusion, he was chosen as the Seagulls’ Players’ and Supporters’ Player of the Year.

He led Brighton to their best-ever finish in English football, ninth place in the Premier League, during an amazing debut season.

In the Premier League in 2021–2022, Cucurella was third for most chances created from open play for a full defender, trailing only Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson of Liverpool. Cucurella is in respectable company considering how heavily Jurgen Klopp relies on his full backs.

Cucurella made the third-most tackles of any full defender at the other end of the field, behind Tyrick Mitchell of Crystal Palace and Stuart Dallas of Leeds United.

What Cucurella has to offer Pep Guardiola’s side?

Marc Cucurella

Cucurella is only a few years away from his prime at only 23 years old. Even though he arrived in Sussex as a young man without ever having lived outside of Spain and speaking no English, he unquestionably improved in his first season at Brighton.

Cucurella has the capacity to develop into one of the top full backs in the world if he maintains his present rate of improvement. Working daily with a coach like Guardiola, who has such a track record of developing young players to their full potential, would only speed up that process.

Having extra defensive responsibilities put on him hasn’t really helped Cucurella temper his aggressive tendencies. Cucurella takes the idea of ball-playing centre backs who can move into the midfield to a whole new level. This is especially true if your name is Pep Guardiola.
