Gareth Southgate and England has climbed to the third position in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings, marking their joint-highest standing.
The current top three includes Argentina, France, and Belgium, with Brazil now occupying the fifth position. England’s ascent follows their successful qualification for Euro 2024. Meanwhile Brazil has slipped out of the top four due to consecutive losses against Colombia and Argentina.
Notable movements also include Switzerland dropping to 18th place, while the Comoros Islands experienced a significant rise, jumping nine spots to 119th after noteworthy victories against Central African Republic and Ghana.
The rankings, released by FIFA, reflect the competitive landscape in international football, with shifts influenced by recent team performances.
English Men have been ranked third previously in August-September window of 2012. They have been third ranked in September-October window two years ago as well.

England’s head coach, Gareth Southgate, aims for the top spot, emphasizing the importance of consistency.
“We’re two places off where we need to be,” Southgate said earlier this month in anticipation of returning to third where England were in 2021. “Am I driven by being ranked number one? Yes, because ultimately you achieve that through consistency.”
The determination to achieve the number one rank is evident in Southgate’s statements, emphasizing the team’s ambition for the pinnacle of the FIFA standings.
The coach attributes this accomplishment to sustained excellence over time.
