Equal Pay: Football Association of Wales sign off historic deal

Cardiff: The Welsh Men and Women will recieve the same and equal pay from now-on while representing the Football Association of Wales.

According to the statement, the new agreement will cover the period up to and including the 2026 Men’s World Cup and the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Also Read: Lewis Hamilton Diet Plan: Is He Vegan Or Vegetarian Or A Meat-Eater?

“We hope that this will allow future generations of boys and girls to see that there is equality across Welsh international football, which is important for society as a whole.” Wales’ men’s and women’s national teams announced the news in a joint statement.

“With this agreement in place, we will now look ahead to the UEFA EURO 2024 and 2025 qualifying campaigns, as we aim to see further success across both our senior teams in the near future,” they added.

Wales Men’s Team grew in popularity after the Euro 2016. The Gareth Bale-led Dragons reached semi-finals before bowing out of the tournament. They also reached their first World Cup after 64 years of wait in 2022. They failed to qualify from their Group and finished 21st in the overall table.

Wales FA Women has never qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and UEFA Women’s Championship. They most recently came the closest they ever have to qualifying for their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup going all the way to the FIFA Women’s World Cup UEFA play-off final. Switzerland women’s national football team beat Wales by 2–1 thanks to a last minute winner in extra time.

England Football Association Men and Women footballers are receiving the same and equal pay since 2020 January. Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland has made the decision of equal pay a year back in 2021. Scotland Women’s are at the Association’s neck requesting the equal pay be established for the Scottish FA too.

The view across the globe is changing with the change in attitudes and trends. Bridging Gender Pay Parity has been a rising issue in the 10s. It is highly enlightening that the results of continuous voices are being heard now and changes are being made.
