Donyell Malen was on fire during Dortmund’s 5-2 win over Gladbach on the weekend. The Dutchman was unstoppable throughout and got a goal and two assists to Sebastian Haller by the end to his name. Malen has been simply sublime for Dortmund in the past month, with only Erling Haaland having more goal contributions than him in Europe’s top 5 leagues since March 18.
Malen joined Dortmund from PSV for a massive €30m fee back in 2021, coming in as a Jadon Sancho replacement. Even though he came in highly recommended, the 24 year-old failed to make waves during his first season and found the net only 9 times in 38 appearances during his first season. Malen’s career took an even worse downwards spiral as he was ruled out constantly due to injuries for the first half of the season. Things finally took a turn for the better when he managed to find the goal for the first time this season against Hertha Berlin all the way in February. The once red-hot talent though, is showing he’s still up for a fight with him finding form in the most pivotal stage of the competition, with Dortmund only a point behind Bayern.

Malen has managed 7 goals in his last seven games and has created an undestanding with Karim Adeyemi and Sebastian Haller which has truly unlocked the best in this Dortmund attack. Malen will be hoping to continue his top form with 2 games left this season against Augsburg and Mainz, as the men in black and yellow make one final effort to end Bayern’s Bundesliga dominance.
