Cristiano Ronaldo had his contract with Manchester United terminated last month, leaving him a free agent. Following a shocking TV interview, the former Real Madrid striker was cut loose by the team just before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar began. In 346 games over two Premier League seasons for Manchester United, Ronaldo netted 145 goals. He won league championships in England, Spain, and Italy, as well as the Champions League five times.

However, according to Saudi Arabian media, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has now agreed to a two-year contract with Al Nassr of the Saudi Pro League and will begin his stint in January 2023. He reportedly received a £70-100 million-per-year offer from the Saudi club in late November, according to reports.

When is Cristiano Ronaldo starting for Al-Nassr?

The first round of his pre-move medical testing is complete, and a second round is anticipated the following week. Despite wanting to remain in a top team in any top league, Al-Nassr was the only team that showed genuine interest, according to the report. The total salary that Ronaldo will earn will be close to €200m per year, but this includes commercial deals.

Al Nassr’s statement on Ronaldo: “History in the making. This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves”.

Cristiano Ronaldo on Al Nassr move: “I’m thrilled for a new experience in a different league and a different country, the vision that Al Nassr has is very inspiring”. He added: “I’m very excited to join my teammates, and to help the team to achieve more success”.

Ronaldo is set to become the biggest star to play in the Saudi Pro League

The Saudi Pro League’s participation in Ronaldo will undoubtedly increase the league’s international stature because he is by far the biggest star to sign with a team.

The top Saudi Pro League players will all make significantly less money than Ronaldo. The Al Nassr player from Brazil, Anderson Talisca, makes about $8 million a year. Another Brazilian player, Matheus Pereira, earns about $5 million annually while competing for Al Hilal.

The Saudi Pro League appears to be on a similar path to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, which will likely result in increased ticket sales in Saudi Arabia after Ronaldo’s signing.
