AS Roma Transfer News: AS Roma rope in onto Nemanja Matic on a free transfer move away from his ex-club Manchester United

Nemanja Matic has become the first signing of AS Roma for the 2022/23 season.

Ex-Manchester United player Nemanja Matic has finally agreed a deal with AS Roma over his switch to the Italian side. Matic’s contract was expiring this May and he wanted a move away from Manchester United and Jose Mourinho reacted quickly and provided him with the contract and signed him for free. Manchester United was struggling in the midfield area during this season and wanted to build a team from scratch letting some of their players to depart such as Pogba and Mata. Although Manchester United would be missing out on some cash having to let Matic go for free. Matic signs for the Italian side AS Roma on a just an one-year deal with an option to extend the contract for one more season. He is a veteran and a very experienced player of the game having had his prime in Chelsea and Manchester United but Mourinho who has coached him during his time at Chelsea believes that he has still a lot to offer to his club. A lot clubs around Europe were looking to pounce on for him but he decided his move to the Stadio Olimpico. He was a decent player for his now ex-side Manchester United having played over 189 games and providing over 15+ goal contributions will look to add his productivity into the AS Roma midfield now and Jose Mourinho knows a thing or two about where to add him in his team having managed him in the past.

Huge boost for Roma in the midfield:

With Matic in the squad, it will give Jose Mourinho a huge boost in the midfield. He will be pairing up with exciting midfield lineup of Lorenzo Pellegrini, Bryan Cristante, Nicolo Zaniolo, Amadou Diawara and Jordan Veretout the next season.

Problems for Manchester United:

With Matic gone and Pogba and Mata having already left the club after their contract expiry last month, it will be a hard summer transfer window for the new manager Erik Ten Hag as he has to find proper replacements for his midfield.
