Despite their reasonably disappointing recent form, Belgium remained one of the underdogs to win the 2022 World Cup while they were the number one team in the world between September 2018 and February 2021.
The Red Devils have competed in 13 World Cups, but have never won the prized cup. Their best-ever finish was third in Russia in 2018.
Thibaut Courtois, Jan Vertonghen, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and captain Eden Hazard are nearing their careers’ end. Still, Belgium’s Golden Generation will have one last chance in Qatar.
Martinez is unaware that the “Golden Generation” has lost some of its lusters. Given that the new breed, led by Charles De Ketelaere of Milan, hasn’t had much time to unite, his loyalty could be Belgium’s undoing. De Bruyne and his team now have one final opportunity to fulfill their promise and establish their legacy.
Belgium will be optimistic about making it to the round of 16 after being matched with Canada, Croatia, and Morocco in the group stages. They have started the campaign with 1-0 victory against North American Canadians

Belgium Star Players
1. Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne scored a career-high 15 Premier League goals last season while playing in royal form for Manchester City, earning him his fourth English Premier League championship gold with the team. In the league’s Team of the Year, the Belgian wizard was an easy choice for one of the midfield positions.
De Bruyne is one of Belgium’s most seasoned players and is completely indispensable to it, having earned 91 caps. He is also one of the team’s great crowd-pleasers, along with Hazard.
I’ll keep playing for the Red Devils until at least EURO 2024, De Bruyne said to the newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, proving that he hasn’t retired yet as well. That is wonderful news for Belgium, which is still vying for World Cup supremacy.
2. Romelu Lukaku
For Chelsea, the strong frontman had a mediocre season, starting just 17 games and spending the majority of his time on the bench. He moved to Inter Milan recently, and the supporters there have embraced him with wide arms as Qatar 2022 approaches.
Also, a fan favorite among Red Devils followers is Lukaku. He is the top goal scorer in the nation’s history with 68 goals in 102 games. He is the sixth player from Belgium to reach 100 caps, joining Vertonghen, Witsel, Toby Alderweireld, Hazard, and Dries Mertens.
If Hazard, De Bruyne, and Lukaku score in Qatar, the Belgian assault will be formidable.
