FIFA Women’s World Cup Semi-Finals Predictions
Semi-Final 1: Spain vs Sweden
The “Blagult” and the “La Roja” are currently ranked 3rd and 6th respectively in FIFA Women’s football. The former, Swedes, have a well-established history as compared to Spain. The Swedes have participated in all editions of the Women’s World Cup, the best result being runners-up in 2003. Meanwhile, The Spaniards are appearing in their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup Semi-Finals. Furthermore, Sweden has won silver in the last two Olympics.
Sweden is undefeated in the competition, having won all the group-stage games. Meanwhile, Spain lost to Japan and was placed second in their group. In terms of knockout stages, Sweden eliminated former champions USA and Japan. Combining all these factors, is highly likely that Sweden would be moving to the next round.
Semi-Final 2: Australia vs England
The Matildas are making their eighth World Cup appearance and reveling in their best result so far. The Hosts have previously won continental championships in Asia and Oceania. The Matildas, one of the most loved sporting teams in Australia, have never crossed the Quarter-finals. However, They have come closer in the 2020 Olympics, where they placed 4th. Australia qualified after knocking out Olympic champions Canada. They beat Denmark and France to advance to the Semis.
The Lionesses, on the other hand, are the tournament favorites. The globally fourth-ranked team is the current European Champions as well as the Finalissima winners. They previously made it to the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015. Similar to Sweden, England are also undefeated. The English, however, had stronger opponents in the knockouts. The Australians are more likely to qualify as the English are lacking a star player and Australians have a home advantage to count on.
